Game Recap: Softball |

Titans Late Rally Falls Just Short, Split A Pair of Games on Saturday

On the day, Ellie Boteler had four hits and one RBI, Kori Keyes and Liz Paver both had three hits, and Jordan Manno had one hit and 3 RBI

DETROIT MERCY 7 – SIENA 1
Freshman Piper Roth got her first start of the season in this game, starting at second base. She drew two walks and scored a run.

The Titans bats finally came alive, tallying all seven of their runs in the first inning of game one.

To start the game, Manno drew a walk, Keyes was hit by a pitch, and Courtney Gilbert singled into right field, loading the bases for Boteler.

She ripped a single in between shortstop and third base, giving the Titans a 1-0 lead. Next, Leena Mortensen hit a ball hard to third base, forcing a fielder's choice and scoring another run, doubling the lead to 2-0.

Boteler then scored on an error, and pinch runner Taylor Gauthier capitalized on another error, again doubling the Titans lead, this time to 4-0.

Freshman McKenna Tanguay then drove in a run, followed by fellow freshman Maggie Hampton being hit by a pitch, again loading the bases.

Manno stepped up and corked a ball down the left field line, clearing the bases and bringing the Titans lead up to 7-0.

Siena scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth, and threatened a couple of times, but the Titans defense was up to the task.

Boteler doubled to left field in the seventh, but the Titans were unable to drive her in.

Ashley Mauser picked up her second win in as many days, tossing a complete game while scattering six hits, one earned run, two walks and six strikeouts.

DETROIT MERCY 4 – COLGATE 6
In game two on the day, the Titans fell behind early, going down by a score of 1-0 after one inning.

Keyes hit a deep triple off the left center field fence in the bottom half of the inning, but the Titans were unable to drive her in.

The Titans deficit was as much as 6-0, but they showed tremendous fight and sparked a big rally at the end of the game.

In the sixth inning, Boteler singled into left field and Jen Lorenz dropped a fly ball fair down the right field line, putting runners on base for Alyssa Lang.

She stepped up and tattooed a double into right center field, driving in both base runners and putting the Titans on the scoreboard, 6-2, for the first time in the game.

Trailing by four in the bottom of the seventh, Keyes started things with a single up the middle. Boteler then drew a walk, putting runners on first and second for Lorenz.

She singled up the middle, scoring one and making the score 6-3. Lang followed that up with a single of her own, scoring another run, and cutting the deficit to only two, 6-4.

Paver, who was 3-for-3 in the game, was due up, but a run down ended the action before she could get a chance at tying the game.

Ultimately, the Titans came up short in the rally and dropped the game by a final of 6-4.

ON DECK
The Titans will finish up their weekend with a 9 a.m. game versus Cornell tomorrow morning.
