Titans Host American University on Wednesday from Titan Field

DETROIT (3/11/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team plays two games in Detroit this week, first welcoming American University to campus for a 12 p.m. ET Wednesday contest against the Eagles. Admission is free and the non-conference game may be seen live via ESPN-Plus.

Detroit Mercy (1-4) is coming off a stretch where it opened the 2019 season with four of five on the road. The Titans also host non-conference foe and women's lacrosse newcomer Kent State this week, welcoming the Golden Flashes to Titan Field on Saturday. The red, white and blue then head back out onto the road for five consecutive road contests.

Titan News & Notes
• The Titans and Eagles are meeting for the second time in women's lacrosse; Detroit Mercy earned a 16-8 win last season on the road.
• Detroit Mercy is playing in its second home game of the season and first from Titan Field after the Titans earned a 17-13 victory over Butler on Feb. 19.
• Senior Lexie Kinmond has a team-high 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists), notching at least three points in all five games this season and a season-high seven at Duquesne. She also leads the SoCon in points per game (4.4) and assists per game (2.2).
• Kinmond was named the SoCon Offensive Athlete of the Month for February after leading the conference in points (15) during the month. She also became the first Titan in school history to surpass 100 career assists (101) with her four assists against Duquesne in the Titans' last game.
• Wandelt became the all-time leader in draw controls in Titan history in the season opener at Ohio State, recording six to surpass former Titan standout Anna Eidem. Wandelt has a team-high 38 DC in five games (7.6 per game), including three games of nine or more draw controls. She tied the single-game school record with 10 DC at Duquesne.
• Wandelt also ranks sixth in the nation with her 7.6 draw controls per game, while also ranking 12th in the NCAA in ground balls per game (3.8), leading the Southern Conference in both.
• Wandelt and Harder (16 draw controls) have combined for 54 of the 68 draw controls on the season, with Detroit Mercy tallying 11 or more in four of five games.
• Senior GK Allison McDonough became the second player in school history with 500 career saves after turning away nine shots at Marquette. She has 526 career saves and turned away 14 shots in the Titans' last game against Duquesne. She has started all 60 games in her Titan career.
• Harder has scored in each of her first five games, including scoring on her first collegiate shot in the opener at Ohio State on Feb. 10; Harder ranks second on the team with 16 draw controls.
• Kinmond leads the team with 11 goals, while Wandelt (10 goals), senior Morgan Girardi (nine goals) and Harder (eight goals) are all just behind.
• Three current Titans have surpassed 100 career goals -- Wandelt (148 goals), Girardi (128) and Kinmond (124). All three are in the top-five in school history in goals. Kinmond also became the third player in school history last season to reach 200 career points (currently has 225 points) and is the school record holder in career assists (101).
• As a team, Detroit Mercy had 21 draw controls in the win over Butler, which was tied for the fourth-most in single-game school history.
• Detroit Mercy is in its 11th season as a program; The Titans earned a share of the Southern Conference regular-season title last season, going 4-1 in league play.
• The Titans have more than 10 victories in three of the past four seasons; The Titans went 10-8 last year and had a school-record 12 triumphs in 2016.
• Head coach Megan Callahan '13 is in her first season at the helm of the Titans; She played for the squad from 2010-13 and was the assistant coach in each of the past two seasons.
• Callahan earned her first victory as head coach on Feb. 19 in a 17-13 victory over Butler in the Titans' home opener.

Scouting American
The Eagles are 4-3 on the season with wins coming over Old Dominion (11-7), Presbyterian (21-3), Howard (19-3) and Central Michigan (11-10) on Monday. American earned a good road win in the victory over CMU, scoring the game-winner with 6 minutes left and then holding the host Chippewas off the board down the stretch. American has averaged 12.4 goals per game so far on the season under first year head coach Jenna Petrucelli and already has more victories than a season ago. The Eagles went 3-14 in 2018, which included an 0-9 mark in Patriot League play.

American is led offensively by a pair of sophomore midfielders in Kendall Goldblum (20 goals, 26 points) and Emma Vinall (20 goals, 26 points). Senior attacker Leah Brennan has added 15 goals and a team-high 36 draw controls for the Eagles. Goldblum also leads the team with 11 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls. In net, senior goalkeeper Fiona Geier has a 46.9 save percentage and 9.68 goals against average, turning away 45 shots on the season. The Eagles had held the edge, 92-66, on draw controls this season.

Milestone Watch
• Senior attacker Lexie Kinmond has 225 points (124 goals, 101 assists) and is 47 points off the all-time mark, held by Emily Boissonneault (272 career points). She is nine points behind Anna Eidem (234 career points) for second place. Kinmond became the first Titan in school history to reach 100 career assists, tallying four against Duquesne on March 3. Kinmond ranks second in points per game in school history (3.88) and first all-time in assists per game (1.74).

• Junior Kaitlyn Wandelt moved into fourth place earlier this season in career points (185) and would became just the fourth player in school history to reach 200 career points with 15 more. Wandelt has 147 goals and 38 assists in 48 career games and ranks third all-time in school history in points per game (3.85), ranking third only behind former Titan standout Emily Boissonneault (3.94 points per game) and Kinmond (3.88). Wandelt already owns the career draw controls record in school history in the season opener at Ohio State and has 195 DC in her career.

• Senior goalkeeper Allison McDonough became the second player in program history with 500 career saves after turning away nine shots at Marquette. She is second all-time in school history with her 526 career stops and ranks fourth in career ground balls (166). McDonough is also third in ground balls per game (2.78) in school history. She ranks No. 2 among active NCAA Division I players in ground balls and seventh in saves per game (8.8) among active D1 goalkeepers.

Detroit Mercy hosts Kent State on Saturday in a non-conference contest from Titan Field. The opening draw is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game may be seen live via ESPN-Plus. Following the home game on Saturday, the Titans return to the road for five-straight games, beginning with a March 23 contest at Saint Francis in Loretto, Pa.
