Four Titan Track and Field Members Tabbed HL All-Academic

DETROIT (3/21/18) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's track and field teams placed a combined four athletes on the 2019 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field All-Academic teams.

The men's team placed junior Adam Fraeyman on the All-Academic team for the second year in a row, while the women's team placed senior Natalie Vizard on the team for the second straight year, along with juniors Kayla Hughes and Brynne Gustafson

Fraeyman carries a 3.682 GPA in the biology department at the University of Detroit Mercy. On the season he has placed fourth in the mile with a time of4:38.28 at the Blue & Gold Invitational. He tallied a second place finish in the 5000m with his time of 16:03.12 and was a member of the DMR team that place fourth at the YSU National Invitational with a mark of 10:35.00. Additionally, he is a 2x member of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

On the women's side, senior Natalie Vizard is majoring in 5-year MBA program and carries a 3.975 GPA. During the indoor season, she was a member of the DMR team that placed sixth at HL Championships with a time of 12:37.88. She also placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 1:00.38 at the GVSU Tune Up and is a 3x member of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Junior Brynne Gustafson capped off her solid indoor season by earning the HL All-Academic nod. She currently has a 3.938 GPA in mechanical engineering. During the indoor season she won a silver medal in the weight throw at the HL Championships. She also placed fifth in the weight throw at the GVSU Tune Up with a distance of 16.36m. She is a 2x member of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
 

Junior Kayla Hughes carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in engineering. She was a member of the DMR team that placed sixth at HL Championships with a time of 12:37.88. Additionally, she set a personal record in the mile run with her time of 5:15.57at the GVSU Tune Up. She is also a 2x member of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

The Titans were one of only two teams to place three members on the team from the women's side. 

The Horizon League announced the Academic All-League Team for both men's and women's indoor track and field with a total of 30 student-athletes being recognized for their success both in competition and in the classroom. Faculty athletics representative and sports information directors from each institution casted their vote by ballot in deciding who would be awarded Academic All-League honors.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
