MACON, Ga. (3/5/2019) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior attacker
Lexie Kinmond (Peterborough, Ont.) was named the Southern Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Month on Tuesday, it was announced by the league office. It's Kinmond's first monthly honor from the SoCon.
Kinmond led all Southern Conference players in several offensive categories during the month of February, including in assists (seven) and points (15). She ranked second in the league goals with eight during the four games in February and was also the leader in points per game (3.75). She was second in shots on goal per game (4.25).
She was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 26 following a nine-point week in a pair of games, including a six-points outburst in a 17-13 home opener win over Butler. Kinmond tallied three points or better in all four games during the month of February, scoring two goals in each contest as well.
Kinmond also ranked third on the Titans in ground balls (11) and caused turnovers (five) during February.
The two-time First Team All-League attacker and two-time co-captain is also surpassing milestones during the 2019 season. Kinmond tallied seven points (three goals, four assists) in the first game of March on Sunday, becoming the first Detroit Mercy player in school history to reach 100 career assists. She has 225 career points (124 goals, 101 assists), which is just nine points behind second place in career points in school history (Anna Eidem -- 234 points).
Detroit Mercy has earned three of the four SoCon Offensive Athlete of the Month honors in the history of Southern Conference women's lacrosse after
Kaitlyn Wandelt earned two of the three monthly honors on offense last season for the Titans.
It's the third accolade overall on the offensive end for the Titans with Kinmond earned Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 26 and Wandelt receiving the accolade on Feb. 19 following the second week of the season.
The Titans are off competitively this week and return next Wednesday, March 13 for a non-conference game against American University from Titan Field in Detroit. It's the start of two-straight at home as Detroit Mercy then welcomes Kent State to town for a Saturday contest.
