Titans Sweep Bowling Green Behind Lights Out Pitching

DETROIT (4/16/19) -- The University of Detroit Mercy softball team swept a two game series versus Bowling Green behind two complete game shutouts from Liz Murphy and Ashley Mauser

On the day, Kori Keyes had two hits, two runs and two RBI, Jordan Manno had two hits and two runs, and Courtney Gilbert and Alyssa Lang both had one hit, one run and one RBI.

DETROIT MERCY 2 – BOWLING GREEN 0
Liz Murphy got the start in the circle for the Titans in game one and tossed an absolute gem. She threw a complete game shutout, scattering a mere two hits, no walks and five strikeouts.

The only runs of the game came in the bottom of the first inning when Manno singled, and on the next pitch, Keyes drove a ball deep over the fence in left center field.

Murphy was in complete control from that point on, never facing a situation that threatened the Titans lead.

The Titans ended game one with six hits, and had runners in scoring position with one out or less in four other innings, but were unable to come up with anything else.

The red, white and blue took game one by a final of 2-0.

DETROIT MERCY 4 -- BOWLING GREEN 0
Ashley Mauser got the nod in game two, looking for a sweep on the day. Following the blueprint that Murphy laid out, Mauser tossed a complete game shutout in another dominant win for the Titans.

In the bottom of the third, Ellie Boteler led things off with a single up the middle. Maggie Hampton came in as a pinch runner, and stole second base during a strikeout.

Taylor Gauthier then laid down a bunt single, safely reaching first base and allowing Hampton to reach third safely as well.

A single into left center field from Gilbert gave the Titans their first lead of the game, 1-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Gilbert led things off when she was hit by a pitch. A single to left field from Manno then put runners on first and second with no outs, and a walk from Keyes loaded the bases.

McKenna Tanguay grounded out to second base, but successfully drove in a run in the process, doubling the lead to 2-0.

A double to straightaway center field from Lang brought Manno home, bringing the lead up to 3-0. Leena Mortensen then drew a walk, once again loading the bases, followed by a groundout to second base from Boteler, allowing Keyes to score and making the score 4-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Falcons put two runners on with one out, but Mauser gained her composure and took care of business behind some stellar defensive play, clinching a 4-0 win for the Titans.

Mauser tossed a complete game, scattering three hits, three walks and six strikeouts in a dominant performance on the mound.
