DETROIT MERCY 3 – NKU 2
The game finally broke open in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Tanguay led the inning off with a single to left field.
With a runner on first base and no outs, Gilbert fell behind in the count 0-2 early, but battled all the way back to a full count, before tattooing a ball over the fence in straightaway center field, giving the Titans a 2-0 lead.
Kori Keyes reached first base on an error from the pitcher, followed by a single to left field from
Alyssa Lang.
Keyes stole third base on a delayed steal, and Boteler took care of the rest, singling through the right side, bringing Keyes home and extending the lead to 3-0.
The Norse responded in the top of the fifth, when a double to right center followed by a walk and a single put them on the board, 3-1.
Northern Kentucky homered in the top of the seventh to halve the Titans lead, 3-2, and ended Mauser's day on the mound.
Liz Murphy came in looking for her Horizon League best sixth save of the season and got just that.
She retired the batters she faced 1-2-3, including a beautiful strikeout that got the batter looking.
Ashley Mauser went six innings in the win, scattering a mere four hits, two walks and two strikeouts in her 15th win of the season.
