MACON, Ga. (4/30/2019) -- Three University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse student-athletes earned First Team All-Southern Conference honors and four players overall received accolades with the league office releasing the 2019 postseason awards on Tuesday afternoon.
The awards and honors are voted on by the league's head coaches. Two, 12-player teams comprise the All-Southern Conference teams, a first and second team. The SoCon All-Freshman team consists of six student-athletes of the highest vote-getters regardless of position.
Senior attacker
Lexie Kinmond (Peterborough, Ont.) and junior midfielder
Kaitlyn Wandelt (Sayville, N.Y.) both earned the third First Team All-Conference honors of their Detroit Mercy careers and junior defender
Tegan McManus (Elora, Ont.) received the first All-Conference accolade of her career, also earning First Team laurels. Freshman midfielder
Elise Harder (Delaware, Ohio) made the six-player All-Freshman Team as the fourth member of the squad to earn postseason awards.
Kinmond led the Southern Conference in points (75) during the regular season, totaling 40 goals and 35 assists for the Titans. She was a three-time Player of the Week and was named the February Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Month in the league. Kinmond led the SoCon in both points per game (4.41) and assists per game (2.06) and broke the Detroit Mercy career record for points on Senior Day. Kinmond was also third on the team in both ground balls (33) and draw controls (26) and had three or more points in 13 of 17 games during the regular season.
Wandelt paced the league in draw controls (115) by a healthy margin and also ranked second in caused turnovers (25), third in ground balls (49) and sixth in both goals (41) and points (56). Wandelt, last season's SoCon Offensive Player of the Year, broke all three of the draw control records during the 2019 season -- tallying new marks for a game (12), season (115) and career (272) in the category. Wandelt ranks No. 13 in the NCAA in draw controls per game (6.76) and became the fourth player in school history to surpass 200 career points.
McManus started all 17 games on defense for the Titans during the regular season and tied for fourth on the team in caused turnovers (14), while also ranking seventh in ground balls (24), which were both career high-totals. McManus had at least one ground ball in 14 of 17 games. She helped spearhead a defense that allowed 55 goals in five league games, including just 34 across the past four SoCon contests.
Harder was among the league's top freshmen all season, ranking second among SoCon freshmen in goals (29), while leading all SoCon rookies in draw controls (38) during the regular season. She ranked fifth on the Titans in both goals and points (30) and second in draw controls and was one of six players to start in all 17 contests. Harder scored in 14 of 17 games during the regular season and tallied nine games of multiple goals, including five hat tricks.
The Titans, which finished at 4-1 for the second time in as many seasons in the Southern Conference to earn a share of the regular-season crown, open play at the 2019 SoCon Championship on Thursday. Detroit Mercy, the No. 2 seed, faces third-seeded Furman at 7:30 p.m. from Paladin Stadium on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
