INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (1/17/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy put 75 student-athletes on the 2019 Fall Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, it was announced by the league office on Friday afternoon. The 75 Titans were part of 1,047 student-athletes in Horizon League-sponsored sports overall for the most recent fall semester.
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
1) Participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.
2) Completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
3) A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
The Titan men's soccer team had 20 members on the honor roll, which led all Horizon League men's soccer programs. Detroit Mercy had 20 of the 100 student-athletes that were honored in Horizon League men's soccer for the fall semester. Fourteen student-athletes from the Detroit Mercy women's soccer team was bestowed with the accolade.
Men's track and field had 14 members of its team honored, which was the second-most among men's track and field programs and women's track and field had seven student-athletes that earned the academic accolade for the fall semester.
Six men's golfers earned the honor, which was the second-most among men's golf programs within the Horizon League. The Titan softball team had eight members on the HL Fall Academic Honor Roll, tied for the fourth-most among league schools.
Detroit Mercy women's golf had five honorees, which was the fourth-most among league schools.
The Titans put 75 members on the honor roll even though the school doesn't sponsor many league sports, including volleyball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis or baseball. Milwaukee led the conference with 142 total honorees.
