DETROIT (1/21/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's fencing team competed in a pair of duals over the weekend with the Titans fencing on Saturday at the Army Duals and Sunday at the Vassar Duals in New York.
The Titans fenced against seven teams on Saturday, falling to Hunter (13-14), Navy (3-24), Army (4-23), RMCC (6-21), Stevens (3-24), Cleveland State (2-25) and Drew (1-26) at the Army Duals in West Pointe, N.Y. Detroit Mercy dropped a pair of duals against Drew and Vassar on Sunday at the Vassar Duals in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Senior epeeist
Christopher Morrison led Detroit Mercy with eight bout victories over the weekend, including going 3-0 against Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC). He also picked up multiple victories against Navy.
In sabre, sophomore
Jaydon Alojipan and senior
James Baker each earned seven bout wins for the red, white and blue. Baker earned two wins against Army on Saturday and picked up two more bout wins on Sunday against Vassar. Alojipan also earned two wins over Vassar on Sunday for the Titans.
Bryce Sturgis (epee) and
Kurt Romkema (foil) added bout victories for the red, white and blue over the weekend.
Detroit Mercy is back in action next weekend on Saturday, Jan. 25, fencing at the DeCicco Duals on the campus of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
