YOUNGSVILLE, La. (2/21/2020) -- Freshman
Reese Ruhlman drove in all four runs in the game against Northwestern State as the University of Detroit Mercy softball team opened the Mardi Gras Mambo on Friday at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
Detroit Mercy lost game one, 9-0, to Abilene Christian and the second game, 7-4, to Northwestern State.
Ruhlman was 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in the nightcap, while sophomore
Taylor Gauthier was 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored.
The Titans will be back in action with two games tomorrow as the red, white and blue face off against Houston Baptist at 4 p.m. and McNeese State at 8 p.m.
Abilene Christian 9, Detroit Mercy 0
The Titans fell behind 4-0 after one and 6-0 after three innings to the Wildcats.
Senior
Jen Lorenz had the lone hit in the contest and senior
Liz Murphy threw five innings and struck out four.
Northwestern State 7, Detroit Mercy 4
The Demons scored a run in the first and three in the second to go up 4-0.
The Titans then mounted a comeback with a pair of runs in the third and fourth. In the third, Gauthier led off the inning with an infield single and then Ruhlman homered to left center, her second home run of the season.
In the following inning, Lorenz reached on an error to leadoff and then back-to-back singles by freshman
Jordan Hazel and junior
Alyssa Lang had the bases loaded with no one out. With two down, Ruhlman stepped up to the plate and delivered again with a two-run single to left to tie the game at 4-4.
Northwestern State was able to regain the lead with two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to jump out in front, 7-4. The Titans had runners on in the fifth and sixth as sophomore
Taryn Peru led off the fifth with a single and Gauthier had a two-out base hit the next inning.
Junior
Regan Glenn started and went a career-best 5 1/3 innings allowing just three earned runs and striking out two.
