Women's Lacrosse Opens Road Trip at Manhattan on Saturday

DETROIT (2/27/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team opens a three-game road trip on Saturday, when the Titans visit Manhattan in New York. The opening draw of the contest is set for a 4 p.m. ET start in Riverdale, N.Y. Live statistics will be available, however, there is no live stream for the contest.

Saturday's game opens a stretch of three-straight away from Detroit that also takes the red, white and blue to South Carolina to play Winthrop and North Carolina to face Gardner-Webb over spring break. The Titans face Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. on Thursday, March 5 and Gardner-Webb three days later on Sunday, March 8 in Boiling Springs, N.C.

The Titans (0-4) are looking for their first victory of the season having faced tough competition in 2020, including No. 3 Northwestern, Pac-12 foe Arizona State and ASUN power Jacksonville among the opponents, thus far.

On The Field:
  • It's the first meeting in women's lacrosse between the Titans and Manhattan; It's the fourth meeting with a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in program history.
  • Junior attacker Kamryn Corraro leads the squad in goals (six) and is tied for the team lead in points (six) and has put all 15 of her shots on net in 2020.
  • Junior attacker Kristina Ellis is also tied for the team lead in points (six) on three goals and three assists.
  • Junior midfielder Taylor Cantelon leads the team with 14 draw controls, which also ranks third in the Southern Conference early in the season.
  • Sophomore midfielder Elise Harder is tied for fourth in the SoCon with 12 draw controls, averaging 3.0 per game.
  • Senior defender Tegan McManus is the squad's leader in caused turnovers with five, while freshman Kate Schmidt has added four CT.
  • Freshman Hannah Shrader leads the Titan goalkeepers in saves (18), saves per game (3.5) and save percentage (32.7) and leads the entire team in ground balls (eight).
  • Detroit Mercy has been effective shooting the ball in 2020, putting 41 of 48 shots on net through three games (85.4 percent).
  • The Titans have earned a share of the Southern Conference regular-season title in each year of women's lacrosse in the league and are 8-2 in the SoCon across two seasons.
  • The red, white and blue were picked to finish in fourth place in the 2020 SoCon preseason coaches poll, voted on by the league's head coaches.
  • Detroit Mercy is entering its 12th year as a women's lacrosse program overall and was the first Division I program in the state of Michigan.
Last Time Out
The Titans fell at home in their last game on Sunday to old ASUN rival Jacksonville, 22-4. The game was played from Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. Junior attacker Kamryn Corraro had two goals and junior attacker Kristina Ellis added one goal and one assist for the Titans, which were out-shot 32-11 in the game. Detroit Mercy did even up the Dolphins on draw controls, 13-13, with sophomore midfielder Elise Harder nabbing five draw controls and junior midfielder Taylor Cantelon adding four DC. Freshman defender Kate Schmidt had three caused turnovers in the contest, while freshman goalkeeper Hannah Shrader made three saves in net.

Scouting Manhattan:
  • The Jaspers are 1-3 on the season with a victory coming over La Salle in overtime, 12-11, in the 2020 season opener.
  • Manhattan also has road setbacks to Drexel and Long Island and fell at home in its most recent game, 12-2, to Bryant.
  • Manhattan is coming off an 11-6 season and 6-2 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
  • Senior attacker Emily Englert leads the squad in goals (five) and points (seven) through four games in 2020, while four other Manhattan players have tallied four goals each.
  • Junior midfielder Carmella Liscio leads the team with eight draw controls, with senior midfielder Emily Sandford just behind on the year with seven DC.
  • Defensively, senior defender Hailey Siemek has a team-best eight caused turnovers and is tied for the team lead with 10 ground balls.
  • In net, freshman GK Ashley Gambardella has started all four contests and has 25 saves, a 11.27 goals against average and 38.5 save percentage for the Jaspers.
  • Head coach Jenna Dingler is in her first season leading the Jaspers.

The Titans head to Winthrop to play the Eagles on Thursday, March 5 in Roch Hill, S.C. before heading to Gardner-Webb for a 1 p.m. ET game on Sunday, March 8 in Boiling Springs, N.C. Detroit Mercy then returns home for two-straight, battling Marquette on Wednesday, March 11 and then facing Presbyterian on Friday, March 20 in the first home night game for the program from Titan Field.
