Murphy Tosses Pair Of Gems In The Circle On Sunday

ORLANDO, Fla. (3/1/2020) -- Senior Liz Murphy allowed just one earned run in 13 innings of work, but the Detroit Mercy softball team couldn't get the bats going in a pair of losses on Sunday in Orlando.

Detroit Mercy (1-16) fell 3-1 to Albany (5-5) in game one and 6-0 to Jesuit-rival Loyola (8-3) in game two.

Murphy allowed just eight hits with 11 strikeouts in her two appearances, giving up just three runs, one earned.

Senior Jen Lorenz had two hits on the day and junior Ellie Boteler smacked her second home run of the season.

The Titans will have a couple of days off before playing at South Florida on Wednesday.

Albany 3, Detroit Mercy 1
Albany scored a run in the top of the third and looked like it was going to add a few in the fourth, but Murphy was able to work out of first and second with no one out.

In the sixth, the Titans tied the game on a two-out home run by Boteler.

The Great Danes plated two unearned runs to take a 3-1 lead in the seventh, but Detroit Mercy tried to rally in its last at-bat, loading the bases with two outs, but could not get the key hit.

Murphy scattered just seven hits and struck out seven batters, while Lorenz was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Loyola 6, Detroit Mercy 0
Loyola jumped on the Titans early with six runs in the first before Murphy came in to settle things down, permitting just one hit with four strikeouts in six innings in the circle.

Detroit Mercy's best chance to score was in the sixth as freshman Reese Ruhlman and Boteler singles with two outs, but the red, white and blue could not muster up another hit.
