Ray McCallum Named To Horizon League All-Decade Team

INDIANAPOLIS (3/4/2020) -- The Horizon League celebrated its past decade of success with the naming of an All-Decade Team and one standout Titan was part of the group in Ray McCallum.

The three-time All-Horizon League selection and the 2013 HL Player of the Year, McCallum ended his Titan career eighth all-time in scoring (1,618) and seventh in assists (451). He helped Detroit Mercy to two-straight postseason appearances with a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and the NIT in 2013.

He started his collegiate career by earning the conference's Newcomer of the Year award and became the first Titan true freshman to ever be honored on an All-Horizon League Team (second team). He led the Titans in scoring (13.5 ppg), assists (4.9 apg) and steals (54) and his 157 regular season total assists ranked second in NCAA amongst freshmen.

After playing with Team USA at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, in the summer of 2011, he came back for a phenomenal sophomore season as he was tabbed All-Horizon League First Team - the first by a Titan since 2003 - as well as the Horizon League Championship MVP. He was also selected to the CollegeSportsMadness.com HL Player of the Year, named to the National All-Jesuit Team, the Lou Henson All-America team as well as the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) All-District First Team as he posted a team-high in points (15.4), assists (4.0) and steals (1.6) and was second in the HL in scoring, third in assists, fourth in steals and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8), fifth in minutes played and seventh in free throw percentage (76.6). He registstred a team-high 10, 20+ point games and three straight in the Horizon League Championship (22, 26, 21). leading the Titans to a title with 21 points, had six boards, four steals and three assists in HL championship victory at Valparaiso.
 
In his final season, he led the Titans in points (18.7), assists (4.5) and steals (1.9) for the third-straight season as well as minutes played (36.6) and topped the Horizon League in scoring and steals, while finishing second in assists, assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2) and minutes played. McCallum was sixth in field goal percentage (49.1) and had at least one steal in all but six games, while scoring in double figures in all but five games on the season. He finished his Titan career in 2013 as the Robert Calihan Team MVP and an All-Horizon League First Team selection. He was named to the National All-Jesuit Team, the Lou Henson All-America Team as well as the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) All-District First Team. 
 
In addition, he was one of 10 student-athletes to be named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team.

McCallum was the 22nd Titan to be drafted when he was selected in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings with the 36th pick. As a rookie with the Kings in 2013-14, he averaged 6.2 points and 2.7 assists in 45 games and then came back to play in 68 games the following season tallying 7.4 points, 2.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds. He saw action in 31 games with the Spurs in 2015-16 before ending the year with the Grizzlies, where he averaged 6.9 points and 2.7 assists in 10 games. 

He has also played in the NBA Summer League and has had an outstanding career overseas.
