DETROIT (4/22/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics is unveiling its All-Decade Teams of the 2010s, compiling the best student-athletes across the past 10 seasons (2010-19) into a First and Second Team in each intercollegiate sport. Next up is a sport that captured a WBI Championship and reached two Horizon League championship games during the decade in Titan women's basketball.
Eight Titans earned All-Horizon League recognition during the decade as Rosanna Reynolds was a three-time All-Conference player, including twice on the First Team. Shareta Brown was also a two-time First Team All-League player during her two seasons with the Titans.
Two Titan players earned Horizon League Newcomer of the Year honors in forwards Yar Shayok (2009-10) and Shareta Brown (2011-12). Three times a Titan was voted as a Horizon League Sixth Player of the Year with Shayok receiving the honor twice in back-to-back years (2011-12 and 2012-13) and forward Brianne Cohen earning the award in 2015-16. Shayok also was voted to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team twice in her career.
Eight out of the 10 seasons in the decade (2010-19) a Titan player was named to the All-Horizon League Newcomer or Freshman Team. Including the 2019-20 season, that number would be nine in 11 seasons. That includes a run of six-straight seasons with Shayok beginning the run in 2009-10 and both Brown (2011-12) and Reynolds (2012-13) earning that honor.
Brigid Mulroy was an NCAA statistical leader during the decade, leading the country in 3-point field goal percentage (50.5) during the 2009-10 season. She then represented the red, white and blue at the Final Four in Indianapolis, winning the Three-Point Shooting Championship for the Titans in April 2010.
Detroit Mercy captured the WBI Championship in 2013, defeating McNeese State in the championship game played at Calihan Hall. The Titans reached the title game of the Horizon League Championship twice during the decade -- in both 2011-12 and 2016-17 and also made their first WNIT appearance in 2011-12. The red, white and blue also defeated a nationally-ranked foe three times during the decade -- with all three of those wins coming over Green Bay (2010 at home, 2012 at Green Bay, 2017 at home).
Six different Titans surpassed the 1,000-point plateau during the 10-year period -- Rosanna Reynolds (1,745 points), Brianne Cohen (1,438), Shareta Brown (1,325), Senee Shearer (1,248), Yar Shayok (1,230) and Nicole Urbanick (1,165).
Both Jalesa Jones (515) and then Reynolds (552) broke the career records for assists, while Yar Shayok (1,152 rebounds) and Haleigh Ristovski (869 caroms) finished No. 2 and No. 3 in career rebounding. Shearer set the career mark for 3-pointers made (231) and then Urbanick (242) eclipsed her for 3-pointers made during her senior season.
