Alek Mauro each recorded top-15 finishes and three Titans set career lows for a two-round tournament as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team ended the Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Tuesday.
The event - which was scheduled for 54 holes - was cut short to 36 due to weather as the Titans placed 12th with a 594 (299-295) score at the par 71, 7,059-yard Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
Occhiuto took 12th shooting a career-low 143 (71-72) as he posted a 1-over 72 on the day, knocking in five birdies and nine pars. He led the team in the event with 23 pars and was tied for first carding seven birdies, while tying for third in the field with a -3, 2.86 average on the course's par 4's.Â
Mauro was just one shot behind him tying for 13th with a career-low 144 (74-70) as he tallied a 1-under 70 in the final round. He was on fire registering seven birdies - including four in a row at one point - to go with five pars. In the competition, he was tied for first on the squad with seven birdies and was second with 20 pars, while tying for first in the field with a -3, 4.50 average on the par 5's.Â
Senior
Drew Tucci posted a career-best 153 (77-76) for 65th, while sophomore
Ryan Sangchompuphen finished in 71st with a 154 (77-77).Â
The Titans will be back in action this weekend as they visit Pennsylvania to play in the Bucknell Invitational from Oct. 10-12.Â
