SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (3/16/2021) -- Junior
James Hill posted a career-best for his second-career top-10 finish as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team completed its second tournament of the spring in the Eighth Annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The event was played at the Par-72, 6,891 yard Sevierville Golf Club's River Course in Sevierville, Tennessee.
Detroit Mercy tied for sixth overall with an 875 (296-285-294), just one shot out of the top five.
Hill carded another round under par on the final 18 with a 2-under 70 as he tallied five more birdies to finish tied for seventh with a career-low 213 (74-69-70). His 11 birdies and 35 pars led the team.
Senior
Scott Sparks got off to a fast start with 10 pars, a birdie and an eagle in his first 12 holes en route to his second consecutive 1-under 71 to share 11th with a career-tying 215 (73-71-71).
Freshman
Alek Mauro tied for 19th for another top-20 performance in his first two starts as he posted a 217 (72-70-75). Mauro rebounded from a 4-over front nine to knock in eight pars and a birdie on the back nine.
Freshman
Ryan Sangchompuphen took 67th in his collegiate debut with a 235 (77-80-78), while senior
Drew Tucci finished in 69th with a 237 (79-75-83).
The Titans will have a week off before getting back into competition March 29-30 at the Butler Spring Invitational.

- Hill's previous career low was a 214 at the 2018 Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate
- Sparks also totaled a 215 at the 2019 Big Blue Invitational
- Mauro, Sparks and Sangchompuph each had an eagle in the event
