Scott Sparks posted his first-ever runner-up mark by shooting a career-best as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team ended the Big Blue Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The Titans finished in 10th place with an 892 (297-295-300) at the par 71, 7,020-yard Hermitage Golf Club's President's Reserve Course.
Sparks began the day with a lead after his opening 137, which included a career-best 4-under 67 in round two and posted a 3-over 75 to tie for second with a career-low 211 (70-67-74), tied for the 10th best 54-hole score in school history.
He started the day with eight pars on the front nine and added five more pars with a birdie on the back nine. He ended up leading the team with 36 pars overall and was second with 10 birdies. He was also second amongst the competition on the course's par 5's (-3, 4.67) and tied for third on the par 3's (-1, 2.92).
It was his third career top-10 effort.
Junior
James Hill shared 15th with a 217 (72-70-75) as he registered two birdies and 11 pars on the day and led the team with 11 birdies overall, tied for the third-most in the field.
Freshman
Alek Mauro finished in 52nd with a 231 (77-80-74) as his final round was a 3-over 73 with 12 pars and two birdies.
Senior
Drew Tucci was 55th with a 233 (78-78-77), while junior
Brendan O'Rourke was 60th with a 243 (85-81-77).
The Titans will get back on the links next week, Apr. 18-19, when they compete in the Wright State Invitational.
