WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (4/27/2021) -- Junior
James Hill finished in the top 20 at the Horizon League Championship as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team concluded its season at the postseason event on Tuesday.
The Titans tallied their best round with a 303 on the final 18 and placed 10th with a 932 (312-317-303) overall at the par 72, 6,874-yard Kampen Golf Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Hill ended his season with a great round carding a 1-over 73 and tying for 18th with a 227 (77-77-73). He started the final round with eight-straight pars and then knocked in four birdies on the back nine. With the event, he is now at 50 rounds of collegiate golf and his 76.64 average is tied for 16th in the Titan record book.
Senior
Scott Sparks shared 26th with a 233 (81-75-77) as he posted four birdies and seven pars in the final round. He ended his career tied for 10th place all-time in school history with a 75.72 average, while his 110 rounds played is tied for the most in school history.
Freshman
Alek Mauro tied for 28th in his Horizon League Championship debut totaling a 234 (78-77-79). He had four pars and a pair of birdies on the opening 18 and then added five pars on the band end.
Fellow freshman Ryan Sangchompuph was 49th with a 254 (76-88-90), while senior
Jonathan Brillati shot a 260 (91-95-74) for 50th, but he posted his best round of the spring with a 2-over 74 as he had 10 pars and three birdies.
The Titans season came to an end, but the program is set to return eight of their nine letterwinners in 2021-22.
