NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (7/27/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team and three Titan student-athletes earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic honors, it was announced by the national organization on Tuesday afternoon.

The Titans were one of 319 schools across the country to earn recognition as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the 2020-21 academic school year. In order to be eligible, schools must have posted a 3.2 GPA or higher during the school year. The Titan women's lacrosse team recorded a 3.39 GPA during the last school year.

Three Titans were honored on the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll, with seniors Kristina Ellis and Sarah Lucas and junior Taryn McManus all earning recognition. To be eligible for honor roll consideration, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Ellis, who holds a 3.68 GPA in Business Administration, is a three-time Academic All-League Team honoree (twice in the Southern Conference and just this past season in the MAC). Ellis played in 52 games in her Titan career, making 41 starts, and totaling 64 points with 44 goals and 20 assists across her four-year career. She added 57 career draw controls and 45 ground balls.

Lucas, with a 3.95 GPA in Psychology and Religious Studies, earned three Southern Conference Commissioner's Medals for sporting a 3.8 GPA or better during each school year (2018-20), also earned Academic All-League honors in the past three seasons. She was a two-year co-captain for the Titans, playing in 48 games in her career, totaling 53 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers. Lucas was second on the squad in 2021 in caused turnovers (14) and third in ground balls (21).

McManus has a 3.92 GPA in Mathematics and is a two-time recipient of an Academic All-League Team (once in SoCon and once in the MAC). She also has received two Commissioner's Medals from the SoCon for having a 3.8 GPA or better during the school year. McManus led the Titans this season in caused turnovers (16) and assists (13), ranking second in ground balls (23), draw controls (44) and total points (25).

The IWLCA honored 862 total student-athletes from 103 different institutions on the 2021 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll.

The Titans had 14 student-athletes in all earn Academic All-MAC Team honors earlier this summer.
