CHESTERTON, Ind. (9/21/2021) -- Seniors
James Hill and
Anthony Occhiuto both finished in the top 20 and the Titans earned a share of fourth as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team ended its second fall tournament in the Valpo Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
Detroit Mercy totaled a 303 in the final round to post an 897 (301-293-303) score on the par 72, 6,997-yard Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana.
Hill tied for 10th with a 219 (70-71-78). He started the round slowly with three bogeys in his first four holes, but then parred 10 of his next 11 holes and added two birdies in the round.
He led everyone on the field with two eagles and topped the team with 11 birdies and was tied for fifth with a -6, 4.50 average on the par 5's.
Meanwhile, Occhiuto had the best round of the day for the Titans with a 2-over 74 as he tied for 12th with a 220 (74-72-72). He had five birdies and eight pars overall on the day.
Occhiuto was third in the competition with 36 pars and also had eight birdies, while finishing tied for second with a +2, 4.07 average on the par 4's.
Sophomore
Alek Mauro shared 22nd shooting a 228 (79-73-76), while sophomore
Ryan Sangchompuphen placed 33rd with a 232 (80-77-75). Mauro had 12 pars and a birdie on the final 18 and Sangchompuphen started his round with eight straight pars and a birdie and knocked in 12 pars and two birdies in the round.
The Titans will be back in action next week, Sept. 27-28, at the Derek Dolenc Invite at Southern Illinois.
