DETROIT (1/27/22) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's fencing teams travel to South Bend, IN. for their first road dual of the season, taking part in the Notre Dame DeCicco Duals Saturday, Jan. 29.Â

The Titans fencing teams competed for the first time since the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
Four Titans made their fencing debuts as freshmen
Isabella Cole and
Hannah Benford, junior
Kirstin Finnila, and senior
Nathan Wodwaski all competed against Michigan, Michigan State, and Wayne State during the Titan Invitational.Â
Justine Hickey picked up a win in Sabre during the Titans' second round matchup with Michigan, while Cole earned a win in Foil by a 5-1 decision.Â
Jaydon Alojipan battled his way to a pair of victories in the second round against the Wolverines by scores of 5-1 and 5-3. In the final round against Michigan State, Alojipan went for the sweep in Sabre, with scores of 5-2, 5-1, and 5-0.Â
DeCicco Duals
The last time the Titans participated in the DeCicco Duals,
Manal Shaito tallied 10 wins while
Justine Hickey earned seven. Hickey went 3-0 in Sabre against the Florida Gators, helping the Sabre squad to an 8-1 advantage in the category, and an overall team win on the round.
Jaydon Alojipan picked up six victories on the day for Detroit Mercy while
Jaylin Brown,
Bryce Sturgis, and
Peter Swanney each earned a win.
