Titans Drop Tilt At Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. (11/25/2022) -- Junior Jayden Stone scored 20 points, but Washington State started hot and never looked back as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped a 96-54 contest on the road on Friday afternoon.

It was the third 20-point game of the season for Stone, who was 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and a career-best 8-of-9 at the free throw line to go with five rebounds.

Graduate senior Antoine Davis had 15 points and a team-high and career-tying seven rebounds with two assists. He now has 2,897 points, moving to 14th in NCAA history and just 18 shy of 13th place and Loyola Chicago's Alfredrick Hughes's 2,914 (1981-85), which would also be the Horizon League record.

Detroit Mercy (3-4) saw Washington State (3-2) score the first four points and took a 13-2 lead just four minutes into the game. A three by Stone made it 13-5, and later on, a basket by graduate senior Buay Koka had the team down 16-7 with 13:39 left.

The Cougars would then go on a 17-3 run to take control of the contest at 33-10 with 9:26 left in the half, and WSU led 56-23 at the break. In the second half, the Titans could not get in a rhythm as Washington State ran its lead to as many as 49.

Senior Jordan Phillips had nine points, three rebounds and two assists and Koka posted four points and two boards.

Detroit Mercy shot 38.3% (18-of-47) from the field, but was just 5-of-12 (41.7%) from three and 13-of-20 (65.0%) at the free throw line.

The Titans will now head into Horizon League play as the red, white and blue visit preseason favorite Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday with game time set for 7:00 p.m.

Game Notes:
