DETROIT (3/17/22) - Junior
Jordyn Chapman connected on her first career home run with a three-run shot while hitting 2-for-7 overall while freshman
Jaiden Lara also hit a two-run shot for her second homer of the season as Detroit Mercy scored a season-high eight runs but dropped a 10-2 and 14-8 decisions in home opening doubleheader #HLSB action to Robert Morris. This marked the first time the Titans have played a game at Buysse Ballpark in 1048 days.
Senior
Taylor Gauthier went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in game two and had three hits overall while senior
McKenna Tanguay hit 2-for-5 overall with a run scored and a walk. Juniors
Renee Trotman and
Jordan Hazel each had a hit and sophomore
Maddy Heilner also recorded her third hit of the season.
Game 1:
• Tanguay, Gauthier, Trotman, Hazel and Chapman accounted for all five of Detroit Mercy's hits.
• Robert Morris took a 4-0 lead with a run in the first, two runs in the third and one in the sixth inning
• Chapman delivered an RBI Single to score junior
Kara Wolfbauer. Redshirt freshman
Alexis Murphy scored off a fielding error pulling the Titans within two runs at 4-2.
• The Colonials broke the game open with six runs on six hits to seal the 10-2 win.
Game 2:
• Lara was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Tanguay in the first inning
• Senior
Taryn Perun reached on a fielder's choice to score Gauthier. Chapman followed with her 3-run shot that gave the Titans a 5-0 lead
• RMU added three runs in the top of the second to close the gap to 5-3
• Lara's two-run home run shot put Detroit Mercy up 7-3
• The Colonials added two runs in the third and once again plated six runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 14-7 advantage
• Wolfbauer scored her second run of the game off a throwing error in the seventh inning.
Detroit Mercy and Robert Morris will play the series finale on Friday, Mar. 18 at 11 a.m.
