Piper Roth went 2-for-3 with a RBI double while graduate student
Leena Mortensen hit a combined 1-for-4 with two RBI and junior
Renee Trotman hit 2-for-6 with a RBI as Detroit Mercy fell 10-2 against East Carolina and 11-3 at host Elon to open play at the Cardinal Invite on Saturday at the Elon Softball Park.
Senior
Taryn Peru also hit a combined 2-for-5 with an RBI while freshman
Jaiden Lara went 2-for-4. Senior

McKenna Tanguay each recorded a hit and a run scored.
Junior
Olivia Warrington also posted six strikeouts against ECU in the circle for the Titans.
Game 1 vs East Carolina
• Mortensen delivered an RBI single to score Tanguay. Peru followed with a single through the right side to plate
Kara Erickson giving Detroit a 2-0 lead in the first inning
• ECU responded with a home run to get on the board in the bottom half
• Titans threatened but left two runners stranded in the second
• The Pirates added a run in the bottom of the second tying game at 2-2. Warrington got out of jam punching out last two batters leaving two runners stranded
• ECU hung a crooked number in the bottom of the third with five runs on five hits to take a commanding 7-2 lead
• The Pirates added a 3-run homer in the fourth to move ahead 10-2 for the eventual win in five innings
Game 2 vs Elon
• Elon got on the board first off an RBI double
• The Phoenix took advantage of a dropped pop up and plated six runs (five unearned) off a bases loaded walk, sacrifice fly, delayed steal of home plate, RBI single and two-run home run for a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth
• The Titans respond with a RBI double from Roth to score Paver, RBI single from Trotman to plate Tanguay and RBI groundout from Mortensen to score Roth
• Titans got the bases loaded with two outs on a single, hit by pitch and walk in the top of the fifth inning but Elon got out of the jam forcing a pop out for the third out.
• Elon got the game-winning walk off RBI single in the bottom of the fifth
The Titans will conclude Cardinal invite on Sunday, Mar. 6 play against in-state foe Michigan State at 9:30 am and host Elon at noon.
