SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (4/30/2022) -- Eight Titans found the back of the net, but an early #RV/RV Utah run made the odds quite difficult to come back from as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team fell in its season finale, 16-9, to the Utes on Saturday.
Junior
Ryan Birney led the scorers with a pair of goals, while junior
Luke Majick had a goal and two assists. Graduate senior
Brett Erskine registered a goal and an assist and two ground balls and graduate senior
Keegan Stenstrom netted a goal as well.
Graduate senior
Paul Manuszak tallied a game-high eight ground balls, tying his season high, and redshirt freshman
Jakob Hemme posted 13 saves.
Majick got the Titans (2-9, 1-4 ASUN) on the board first as he scored just a little more than a minute into the contest. Utah (9-3, 5-0 ASUN) would then go on a 7-0 run over the next 11 minutes before Birney ended that spurt off a pass from Majick.
Erskine fed Stenstrom for a goal late in the second half, but the Titans trailed 10-3 at the break. Erskine and junior
Ivan Progar netted back-to-back goals to start the third. Senior
Mitch Durst and freshman
Aidan Bishop also beat the keeper in the period.
Majick set up Birney for his second goal in the fourth and sophomore
Will Edell netted the final marker of the season with 3:55 left
The Titans were outshot, 52-45, but almost won the battle of ground balls, 29-27. Detroit Mercy was also 22-of-25 on clears and won 14-of-27 faceoffs.

- The Titans are 0-2 all-time against Utah with both games on the road
- This was the final game for a 13-member senior class in Peyton Bixby, Matt Blevins, Cam Case, Mitch Durst, Brett Erskine, Ryan Figueiras, Mason Kamminga, Zach Kennedy, Paul Manuszak, Max Payton, Jacob Prinz, Keegan Stenstrom and Cole Zarola
- The 45 shots in the game were the second-highest on the season behind the 50 the Titans had against VMI
- Manuszak ended his career second in school history with 218 career ground balls, while his 62 caused turnovers are fourth in the school record book
- Erskine finished his career with 138 career points for fourth in school history and his 91 goals were
- Majick totaled six goals and four assists in his last three games
