Titans Bolster Roster With Two Transfers, Two Freshmen

DETROIT (7/12/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team has officially announced the addition of four players to the 2022-23 roster in graduate transfer Damezi Anderson, junior transfer Jayden Stone and incoming freshmen Isaiah Jones and Marcus Tankersley.

"These guys are just the start of our roster that we are putting together," said head coach Mike Davis. "We have a couple of guys who have competed at the Division I level and should be able to compete right away and a couple of freshmen who have some good talent, size and skills that they can continue to develop."

Damezi Anderson * F/G * Gr. * 6-7 * 230 * South Bend, Ind./Riley (Loyola)
  • Coming from Loyola Chicago with two years of eligibility
  • Did not play in 2021-22 and saw action in four games the year before
  • Prior to that, he played for Indiana for two seasons, appearing in 39 games and averaged 2.1 points and 1.6 rebounds, including 2.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in 18 games as a sophomore
  • Coming out of high school, he was ranked #92 in the country by 247Sports and No. 114 in the nation by Rivals and was the No. 2 player in the state of Indiana
  • Tallied 2,210 points in his prep career at Riley High School to set a St. Joseph County and South Bend scoring record
  • As a senior, he averaged 19.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game earning Associated Press Second Team All-State and was a finalist for Indiana Mr. Basketball
  • Named Northern Indiana Conference MVP in 2017 and 2018 and posted 24.0 points and 7.6 rebounds as a junior 

Jayden Stone * G * Jr. * 6-4 * 195 * Perth, Australia/Sunrise Christian (Kan.) (Grand Canyon)
  • Played in 30 games the past two seasons at Grand Canyon University and averaged 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds along with 25 assists to just 16 turnovers
  • Shot 39.3 % from the field and 30.2% from behind the arc along with 82.1% at the free-throw line
  • Scored a career-high 14 points against Abilene Christian hitting 5-of-7 from the field 
  • Prepped at Central Park Christian High School in Alabama but then transferred to Sacred Heart High School in Alabama for his junior season and Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas for his senior year
  • One of the top prospects in the state of Alabama, he was named 2019 Alabama 2A Player of the Year and First Team All-State as a junior as he tallied 21.2 points and 10.2 rebounds, leading his team to a runner-up appearance in Class 2A
  • Moved to powerhouse Sunrise Christian program for senior season and helped lead the school to a 22-3 record against a national prep schedule.
  • Had a 17-point effort in a nationally televised 91-48 victory against Hillcrest Prep in the Hoophall Classic
  • Was a McDonald's All-American nominee

Isaiah Jones * G/F * Fr. * 6-8 * 209 * Nashville, Tenn./Speights Academy (Fla.)
  • Lettered in baseball, football and basketball in high school
  • Named First Team at the Prep Nationals Post Grad SLAM All-Stars showcase
  • Averaged 16.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 11.0 assists as a junior and also set a school record with 11, 3-pointers in a game

Marcus Tankersley * G * Fr. * 6-4 * 193 * Chattanooga, Tenn./Veritas Academy (Fla.)
  • Lettered in football and basketball
  • Named Second Team All-State as a senior 
  • Scored a career-high 38 points as a senior playing for Veritas, under head coach Rod Wilmont, who played for coach Davis at Indiana
  • Tallied 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists and was tabbed First Team All-State and All-District as a junior
  • Helped his team to a 2020 state title

They join Sonny Johnson - who signed with the team in the fall - as part of this year's recruiting class. In addition, former Titan Jamail Pink, who spent his first two collegiate seasons in the Motor City, has transferred back to the program.

More additions to the roster will be released in the near future.
