DETROIT (9/1/22) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team returns to action Friday, Sept. 2 from the Hudson Mills Metropark as they take on the University of Michigan to begin the 2022 season.
Returning Harriers
The Titans return 11 competitors from the 2021 squad, including graduate students
Ryan Schwab and
Alexander Petlichkoff and senior
Oscar Hernandez, among others. Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Guy Murray '89 said, "The team has potential. We had a bit of rough finish last year but need to pull together as a group and get the pack going and move up together. Improving our Horizon League finish is the top priority for the year."
Newcomers
Detroit Mercy welcomes two newcomers to the team this season;
Joshua Otten and
Antonio Romano. "Antonio and Josh both have potential to contribute this year. How they adjust to the longer collegiate race and the equivalent training is the question" Murray said. Romano will be held out from competition this weekend.
Michigan Open
The Michigan Open is set to begin from the Hudson Mills Metropark at 10 a.m. eastern. "We have not opened up on the first weekend in a few years. Training has gone well so I am hopeful of a positive start," Murray stated. "Thus, the opener is as challenging as it gets for us. We are going to focus on our race and continue to make progress towards our goals."

Following the Michigan Open, the red, white, and blue will return home for the 36th Annual Detroit Mercy Titans Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10 from Cass-Benton Park.
