CHESTERTON, Ind. (9/20/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team wrapped up its season opener at the Valpo Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
The Titans took 17th with a 971 (322-335-314) at the par-72, 7,052-yard Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana.
Junior
Alek Mauro led the way tying for 32nd with a 227 (77-79-71) as he finished the final round with a 1-under 71. He had two birdies and 13 pars in the final 18 and led the team with 31 pars on the day with the team's lone eagle that he made in the first round.
Freshman
Vincent Levesque tied for 75th with a 236 (75-82-79), while junior
Ryan Sangchompuphen finished 94th with a 250 (87-79-84). Levesque had a birdie and 11 pars on the day and Sangchompuphen added two birdies to lead the team with seven in the event.
Freshman
Austin Brancaccio ended his collegiate debut with an 80 and was 97th with a 258 (83-95-80) as he registered 10 pars and a birdie in the final round.
Detroit Mercy will now have a few weeks off before heading back to the links with Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invite from Oct. 3-4.
