DETROIT (9/22/22) - Graduate Student
Julie Ann Piechocki delivered the game-winning goal in the 61st minute to secure Detroit Mercy's 1-0 win over visiting Youngstown State to remain unbeaten at home in Horizon League play on Thursday night at Titan Field. Junior Jazimne Scott recorded her second shutout of the season making four saves.
After a scoreless first half, freshman
Abbey Lodato got the attack going for Detroit Mercy (4-5-1, 2-1 HL) taking control of the ball at midfield and pressed the attack. She sent a pass ahead that a YSU defender misplayed redirecting the ball to the feet of Piechocki who was moving up the middle of the field. Piechocki controlled the ball and ripped a shot from the 15-yard line that bounced just under YSU (2-6-2, 0-2-1 HL) goalkeeper Mackenzie Simon who was able to get a piece of the ball but was not able to stop it from rolling into the left corner of the goal just inside the post.
Scott and the Titan back line were able to keep the Penguins off the board the rest of the way to preserve the shutout.
Detroit Mercy hits the road for a league match at Robert Morris on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
