Lucia Fleta Robles added a career-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 2-for-3 from 3-point range as Detroit Mercy fell 82-69 to Wright State in #HLWBB action on Friday night at Calihan Hall. In her second career-double, Trawally Porta scored a career-high 18 points shooting a staggering 8-for-10 from the field and 1-for-1 from long range while matching a career-best 13 rebounds. Murua posted her 11th career double and third of the season with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting with 10 boards while Burch posted her second consecutive double-double and third of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The last time two Titans recorded a double-double was back on March 10, 2016 when Haleigh Ristovski (26 pts., 11 reb.) and Rosanna Reynolds (18 pts., 11 reb.) accomplished the feat against Valparaiso.
It was a tale of two halves as Detroit Mercy (3-13, 1-6 HL) held Wright State (2-15, 1-6 HL) to 12-for-30 (40%) from the field and 4-of-12 (33.3%) in the first half to take a 39-31 lead into the locker room. However, it was a different story in the second half as the Raiders outscored the Titans 51-30 due to red-hot shooting from 3-point range going 5-for-6 in the third quarter and 6-of-8 in the fourth quarter for a total of 11-for-14 (78.5%) en route to tying the school-record with 15 made 3-balls. This hot shooting also neutralized the Titans' 52-28 points in the paint and 20-9 second chance points advantage.
Detroit Mercy opened the game with hot shooting going 7-for-9 (77.8%) from the field to take an early 15-6 lead. Murua made a lay-up to cap off a 7-0 spurt to increase the lead to 22-14 at the end of the quarter.
Wright State responded with a 6-0 run to pull within two points, 26-24, by the first media timeout of the second quarter. Trawally Porta connected on consecutive lay-ups to close out the half with a game-high 15 pts. and eight rebounds giving the Titans a 39-31 lead.
WSU opened the second half with a 13-0 run to take a 44-41 lead before Trawally Porta hit a free throw to end the spurt. The Raiders went on to outscore the Titans 16-3 going 4-for-4 from long range to take a five-point lead, 47-42, by the 4:56 media time out and closed out the frame outscoring Detroit Mercy 25-10 to take a 56-49 advantage into the fourth quarter.
UDM battled back to close the deficit to seven points, 67-60, midway through the fourth quarter but could not withstand WSU's continued hot shooting as they went 10-for-15 (66.7%) overall for the final frame to secure their first Division I win of the season.
Detroit Mercy's five-game #HLWBB home stand continues against Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.
