Amaya Burch had quite the performance posting her second career double-double scoring a game-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting (3-of-7 from 3-point range) while grabbing a career-best 16 rebounds to lead Detroit Mercy to a 64-58 win over visiting Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall. This was the first #HLWBB win of the season for the Titans which also snapped a six-game skid.
Junior
Irene Murua just missed a double-double hauling in 11 boards along with scoring nine points. Sophomore
Emma Trawally Porta scored in double figures for the third time this season posting a career-high 13 points going 4-for-4 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line with eight rebounds. She also posted four blocks defensively for the fifth time this season.
Junior
Lucia Fleta Robles chipped in with seven points going 3-for-3 from the charity stripe as Detroit Mercy (3-12, 1-5 HL) went 17-for-22 (77.3%) for the game. Sophomore
Akyia Baker added six points with four rebounds while junior
Jada Moorehead had five points.
For the game, the Titans dominated the boards with a 51-20 advantage with 15 offensive rebounds that led to an 11-0 second-chance points advantage over Robert Morris (7-8, 1-5 HL).
After Detroit Mercy held a 33-30 lead at the half, the Titans outscored RMU 20-11 in the third quarter to take a 53-43 lead into the fourth.
The Colonials responded to open the fourth quarter by going on a 12-1 run to retake the lead at 55-54 with 2:38 remaining. Burch and Trawally Porta converted on lay-ups giving the Titans a 58-55 lead at the 1:27 mark. With 42 seconds remaining, freshman Ana Cabañas Llorens converted on a clutch driving lay-up followed by two free throws from Burch to cap off an 8-0 run with just 18 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
