CINCINNATI, Ohio (11/10/23) – Senior
Jayden Stone set a career-high with 25 points and added five rebounds, but the Bearcats used a barrage of early threes to jump ahead early and pull away as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell, 93-61, on the road to Cincinnati on Friday.
Stone went 4-for-9 from long range and 9-of-20 from the field, while adding two steals and an assist.
Graduate transfer
Edoardo Del Cadia tied his career mark with 13 points on an efficient shooting night, going 4-for-5 from the floor and 2-of-3 from deep, in just 21 minutes before fouling out of the contest.
The Titans went 9-of-23 from deep as a team (39.1%), but were limited by the Bearcats to 37.5% shooting overall and were 10-of-17 from the charity stripe.
The Bearcats jumped out to an 8-0 lead on a pair of threes and a jumper, but Del Cadia stopped the surge with three points in the early going.
Detroit Mercy connected on three straight triples, from graduate senior
Donovann Toatley, Stone and Del Cadia in order, to climb within six at 18-12 at the 12-minute media timeout of the first half.
Cincinnati got hot from deep and closed the first half with 13 treys to take a 60-27 lead to the locker room.
The Titans were able to get more stops in the second half and would go on to outscore the Bearcats, 34-33, in the frame, but the first half hole proved too much to overcome.
Toatley finished the game with 11 points and a team-high three assists. Sophomore
Marcus Tankersley added seven points and redshirt freshman
Abdullah Olajuwon pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Detroit Mercy will return to action on Tuesday as the red, white and blue make the trip to Ole Miss.
