INDIANAPOLIS (2/13/2023) -- For the 14th time in his career, University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball graduate senior
Antoine Davis was named the Horizon League Nike men's basketball Player of the Week.
Davis averaged 41.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Titans split a pair of games in Wisconsin. He tied his season-high with 42 points at Milwaukee - scoring 30 in the second half - and nailed seven 3-pointers with five rebounds and four assists. He came back to tally 41 points at Green Bay, hitting 11-of-22 from the field and 8-of-15 from behind the arc to go with five rebounds and two assists.
On the weekend, he passed Larry Bird to move to ninth in NCAA history with 1,161 career field goals and now has 3,482 career points, 185 in back Pete Maravich's NCAA-record 3,667.
Davis currently leads the nation in scoring (27.7 ppg.), total points (748), total 3-pointers (129), 3-pointers per game (4.77) and total field goals (245). His 27.7 points on the year would be a Horizon League record, breaking the 27.6 by Loyola's Alfredrick Hughes in 1983-84. He extended his NCAA record in double figures in scoring - consecutive and total - to 138 as well as his NCAA record in 3-pointers to 558.
This year, he has a league-best 22, 20-point games, 10, 30-point outings and four 40-point outbursts, with the four 40-point games the most since Campbell's Chris Clemons had four in 2018-19. If he gets one more, it would be the most since Gonzaga Adam Morrison's had five during 2005-06.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action this week as the red, white and blue travel to Oakland on Friday and host IUPUI on Sunday.
