Alek Mauro claimed second for the second time this season as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf wrapped up Winona State'S Warrior Invitational on Saturday.
As a team, the Titans tied for seventh with a 967 (330-319-318) at the par 72, 7,107-yard Legacy Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada.
Mauro posted his second-straight 1-over 73 and was second overall with a season-best 218 (72-73-73), just three shots off the lead. His final round saw him knock in three birdies with 11 pars as he tied for sixth in the event with 10 birdies and fourth with 33 pars to go with an eagle. He was second on the weekend on the par 4's with an even-par average and tied for fourth on the par 5's with a -3, 4.75 average.
The 218 was one shot off his career high, while the second-place finish was his third-straight top-three mark as he was third at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship and tied for second at the Atomic City Classic.
Junior
Matthew Schultz ended his Titan debut with a 78 in the final round and tied for 34th with a 244 (83-83-78). He had two birdies and 10 pars in the final round and played the final 12 holes at even par.
Freshman
Vincent Levesque placed 39th with a 247 (81-82-84), while freshman
Austin Brancaccio was 46th with a 260 (94-81-85).
The red, white and blue will now have a few weeks off before they compete in Butler's Don Benbow Spring Invitational from Mar. 27-28.
