DETROIT (4/15/2023) -- Senior
Annie Gilbert scored three goals to lead six Titan scorers, but it was not enough as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-8 outcome to Central Michigan on Saturday.
It was Senior Day as the red, white and blue honored their nine-member class in
Marina Butler,
Charlotte Dale,
Annie Gilbert,
Heather Keery,
Kiah Nuessgen,
Caitlin O'Brien,
Kate Schmidt,
Hannah Shrader and
Jess Turner.
Gilbert added an assist to her hat trick. Dale had two assists and a goal and sophomore
Maddy Camm had a goal and three ground balls.
Shrader started and made one save, while sophomore
Meredith Leavell recorded seven saves and a pair of ground balls.
The Titans (3-8, 2-3 MAC) began the game with a goal as Dale beat the keeper just two minutes into the contest. Central Michigan (6-6, 4-0 MAC) answered with seven-straight markers before Camm ended that at the 13:27 mark in the second. Junior
Cat Kopchia made it two in a row, getting a pass from Gilbert and firing one in to make it 7-3 with 12:31 left.
Gilbert rang in a free-position goal with 3:18 left in the period and added another with just 37 seconds remaining as the red, white and blue trailed, 11-5 at the break.
Sophomore
Brooke Parrillo scored her first career goal early in the third to cut the deficit to 12-6 and junior
Ella Brandt scored with 2:25 on the clock to pull the team within eight, 15-7. Gilbert would finish off the game with her hat trick off a pass from Dale with nine seconds to go.
Butler had two caused turnovers and a career-high three ground balls. Nuessgen posted a career-tying two caused turnovers and a ground ball and freshman
Ysa Pakowski recorded a season-high two caused turnovers and two ground balls, along with a draw control.
The Titans had a 14-13 edge on ground balls, 14-of-17 on clears and had just 12 turnovers.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action next Saturday as the Titans visit Youngstown State.
