Alek Mauro had another sensational day out on the links as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team made a quick stop to Notre Dame for the Irish Match.
The tri-match pitted the Titans against host Notre Dame and Jesuit-rival Loyola at the par 70, 6,713-yard Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana.
Mauro finished fourth with a 144 (73-71). He had 13 pars and a birdie in round one and came back with 11 pars and three birdies in round two to earn his fifth top-five finish in the last six events.
Junior
Ryan Sangchompuphen and freshman
Vincent Levesque tied for 15th with a 156. Sangchompuphen shot back-to-back 78's with eight pars and two birdies in the morning and nine pars and a birdie in the afternoon, while Levesque carded an 80 in the first round and a 76 in round two, knocking in 11 pars and a birdie.
Junior
Matthew Schultz shared 17th with a 159 (78-81) and freshman
Austin Brancaccio was 20th with a 161 (79-82).
As a team, the Titans totaled a 614 (308-306) for third.
Detroit Mercy will now head to Ohio for the NKY Jewell Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
