Titans Rank High In Latest APR Report

INDIANAPOLIS (5/2/2023) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics and its student-athletes had another successful year hitting the books as the NCAA released its latest Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) on Tuesday.

Detroit Mercy saw every one of its programs post multi-year scores above the 930 NCAA qualifying mark, with eight tying or exceeding the national 984 standard, and five recording perfect scores for the current period of the 2019-20 academic year through the 2022-23 academic year.

"The current APR data clearly indicates our student-athlete's dedication to pursuing academic achievements," said Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance Steve Corder '98. "The commitment to academic excellence displayed by the student-athletes, coaches and staff, especially Amy Gasahl '11 (MBA) and Joshua Stenback, and university professors, advisors and support staff is second to none. This is a true Detroit Mercy accomplishment and congratulations to all Titans involved."

The men's and women's cross country teams, men's and women's golf and women's lacrosse each registered perfect 1,000 scores, while men's lacrosse (991) and women's soccer (988) were above the national average and men's fencing (984) tied the 984 benchmark.

"These scores show just a glimpse of how hard our student-athletes work in the classroom," said Gasahl. "We are always proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes in their academic endeavors. They exemplify what it means to be a student and an athlete, and our student-athletes are proud Detroit Mercy Titans and the world needs Titans."

For the head coaches' APR report, Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Guy Murray had perfect scores for men's and women's cross country, Dwayne Hicks in women's lacrosse and Lindsey Lammers in women's golf.

Amid the rapidly evolving college athletics landscape, Division I student-athletes continue to achieve academic success while earning degrees. While some teams experienced a slight decrease in scores, the national four-year Academic Progress Rate held steady at 984.

"Excellence is engrained in student-athletes — academically and athletically. Thousands of former student-athletes are returning to college to complete their degrees, further demonstrating the importance of higher education and exemplifying the fulfillment of earning a college degree," said Division I Committee on Academics Chair Robert Davies, president of Central Michigan.
