Men's Basketball Announces The Signings Of Six Transfers

Head coach Mike Davis continues to remake the Titan roster for the upcoming season.
DETROIT (7/17/2023) -- Continuing to retool the roster for next season, University of Detroit Mercy head men's basketball coach Mike Davis has announced the addition of six transfers for the upcoming 2023-24 campaign.

"We have a good group of guys that are athletic and can shoot the ball," said coach Davis. "We added some good size and length, which will help us offensively and defensively, and many of these guys have played at bigger schools, so if they can all buy in and work hard, this can be a really good team."
 
Jadan Coleman * G * 6-6 * 193 * Sr. * Madison, Ala. / Bob Jones (Tulane)
  • Played in 62 games with 14 starts in his three years at Tulane
  • Tallied 4.5 points and 1.0 rebounds per game, shooting 37.4% from the field, 34.6% from three and 75.9% at the free-throw line, scoring in double figures on 10 occasions
  • Played in 19 games, starting five, last season and averaged 4.4 points in 13.7 minutes per game and dropped a career-tying 19 points against Buffalo
  • As a sophomore, he was in double figures in seven games, including a career-high 19 points at SMU, 17 points with four 3-pointers versus Temple and 16 points with four more triples at South Florida
  • As a freshman, he saw action in 20 games and scored a season-high 13 points at Tulsa
  • Prepped at Bob Jones High School in Madison, Alabama, and competed for the Alabama Fusion on the Nike EYBL circuit in 2019

Coach Davis on Coleman – "He is a guy who is a really good shooter and will bring that threat to us and has a lot of experience playing against good teams in the AAC."
 
Oton Jankovic * F * 6-10 * 205 * Gr. * Zagreb, Croatia / Montverde (Tulane)
  • Played in 21 games in three years at Tulane
  • Totaled 10 points, eight rebounds and six blocks
  • Saw most of his action as a sophomore, appearing in 10 games
  • Began his collegiate career at Vanderbilt and played in 21 games as a rookie, scoring a season-high five points at Alabama and four points with three boards at Mississippi
  • Prepped at Montverde Academy in Florida and Prolific Prep in California and was a member of the Croatian National Team at every level from U14-U18 and trained with the Olympic team in the summer 2020


Coach Davis on Jankovic – "He is a veteran and another guy from a really good conference and was teammates with Jadan (Coleman). He is athletic and skilled for a big guy, and he can shoot the basketball too."

 
Emmanuel Kuac * G/F * 6-7 * 205 * Gr. * Calgary, Canada / Kearns High School (Ut.) (New Mexico)
  • Saw action in 47 games with six starts in his four years at New Mexico and averaged 2.7 points and 3.6 rebounds
  • Played in 19 games as a rookie and 21 games with five starts as a sophomore, registering 3.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, and scored a season-high eight points at Colorado State 
  • Made his first career start in the season opener at Rice, scoring eight points and grabbing a career-high seven rebounds and also posted a then career-high nine points on a career-high three 3-pointers versus Our Lady of the Lake and nine points at Air Force 
  • Posted career highs with 11 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists against Norfolk State as a junior, but ended up appearing in just six games that season and one as a senior due to injury
  • Prepped at Kearns High School in Utah and was Third Team All-State as a senior by the Deseret News and was a top-five prospect in Canada


Coach Davis on Kuac – "He is very athletic and really tough and comes from a good conference in the Mountain West. He will be a great defensive player for us as a guy who can protect the rim and then on offense, another guy who can make the outside shot and get to the rim."

 
Mak Manciel * G * 6-3 * 197 * Jr. * Detroit, Mich. / Stevenson (Arkansas State)
  • Missed last season due to a knee injury
  • A First Team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American as a sophomore at Henry Ford College, posting 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists, shooting 47.6% from the field, 40.8% from three and 83.0% at the line
  • Also had a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio while leading the team with 69 steals
  • As a rookie, he was All-Region and Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Conference, All-Defensive Team and All-Freshman Team honors 
  • Prepped at Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights, Michigan


Coach Davis on Manciel – "He was going to be a force at Arkansas State, but got injured. He is a really good outside shooter who has good range and someone who should help us." 

 
Alex Tchikou * F * 6-11 * 230 * Sr. * Paris, France / Dream City Christian (Rhode Island)
  • Has seen action in 31 games in his previous two stops at Alabama and Rhode Island, reaching the NCAA Tournament as a freshman with the Crimson Tide
  • Suited up in 29 games last year with 14 starts with the Rams and recorded 4.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, shooting 48.8% from the field
  • Also had 21 blocks and 10 steals
  • Posted a career-high 11 points at Loyola, 10 points and was 6-for-6 at the free throw line at George Mason, six points and grabbed eight rebounds at Saint Louis, six points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots at Saint Joseph's and eight points and six rebounds at Massachusetts 
  • Played his first two years at Alabama, missing his freshman year with an injury and seeing action in just three games as a sophomore
  • Was a four-star prospect by Rivals, 247sports and ESPN out of high school, ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 36 overall player and the No. 6 power forward in the 2020 class, while 247sports has him at No. 58 overall and No. 11 at his position and ESPN.com No. 56 nationally and No. 11 power forward
  • Played his senior year at Dream City Christian High School in Glendale, Arizona, and averaged nearly 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game


Coach Davis on Tchikou – "He played at a high major in Alabama and then in the A-12 at Rhode Island so he has played against really good teams and players. He is a skilled big man who can really be a force in this league."

 
Jay Allen-Tovar * F * 6-9 * 220 * Sr. * San Jose, Calif. / Valley Christian (New Mexico)
  • Saw action in 35 games with 17 starts at New Mexico and tallied 4.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game
  • As a junior, he led UNM in rebounding (5.0) and blocks (44) and had 13 double-figure games, registering 7.9 points, and helping his team reach the NIT
  • Poured in a career-high 25 points going 10-of-14 from the field, 4-of-7 from three with six rebounds at Wyoming
  • Had 18 points with eight boards and three blocks against Florida Atlantic, 15 points and 11 rebounds at New Mexico State, 11 points, four boards and three blocks versus Boise State and 18 points with four rebounds and two blocks against San Jose State and 17 points with seven rebounds against Colorado State 
  • Spent his first two years at Salt Lake Community College and averaged 10.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore and 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game as a freshman
  • Prepped at Valley Christian High School in California and was Second Team All-League after tallying 25.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as a senior


Coach Davis on Allen-Tovar – "Just another talented guy from a good conference and good program in New Mexico. He can really shoot the basketball and is athletic, which should help us on both sides of the ball."


The six signees join freshman and local product Ryan Hurst as new student-athletes for the year.
 
Additional recruits will be announced at a later date.
