SOUTH BEND, Ind. (9/15/2023) -- Four Titans were in the top 75 as the University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team competed in Notre Dame's 43rd Annual National Catholic Championships on Friday.
The Titans claimed sixth with 202 points on the 8k Burke Golf Course as six of the top seven harriers were in just their first or second year of racing.
Sophomore
Joshua Otten once again led the Titans with a time of 26:22 in his first 8k race.
Freshman
Christopher Russelburg was 56th in 26:56, while junior
Kenny Lashaway placed 61st in a career-best 27:08. Freshman
Kenyon Popiel was the other Titan in the top 75, finishing in 72nd in 27:35. Graduate senior
Oscar Hernandez ran 27:53 for 80th. Freshman
Elijah Jorgensen posted a time of 28:07 for 82nd and junior
Ashwin Philip crossed the finish line in a career time of 28:25 for 90th.
Detroit Mercy has now run a team in all 43 years in event history.
The Titans will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to Kentucky for the Live In The Lou Classic on Sept. 30.
