Gowtham Nalluri finished in the top 15 as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team wrapped up play at the Valpo Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
On a day that started with almost a three-hour rain delay, the Titans tallied a 301 to finish sixth overall with a 905 (305-299-301), six shots outside of third, at the par 72, 7,054-yard Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana.
Nalluri tied for 12th with a 225 (75-73-77) as his final round included 13 pars. He led all performers with 39 pars and was tied for 11th with a +7, 4.23 average on the course's par 4's.
Freshman
Mason Sokolowski shared 14th with a 226 (76-75-75) as he posted eight pars and four birdies for a 3-over 75 on the final 18. Overall, he was tied for third in the event with 10 birdies and tied for ninth with a +6, 4.20 mark on the par 4's.
Junior
Marko Banic shared 20th with a 227 (76-75-76), while senior
Alek Mauro tied for 24th with a 228 (78-76-74). Banic had 10 pars and two birdies in the final round and was tied for sixth with nine birdies and tied for 10th with a +1, 3.08 average on the par 3's in the event. Mauro had the best final round for the Titans with a 2-over 74 as he knocked in nine pars and four birdies.
The Titans played the course's par 5's to a -5, 4.77 mark, third best in the field.
Detroit Mercy will have a couple of weeks off before playing in Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Oct. 2-3.
