Aaliyah McQueen posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds on 6-of-12 shooting and 3-for-6 from behind the arc with four assists. Emaia O'Brien had quite the homecoming as the third player in double figures with 12 points going 2-for-6 from behind the arc.
After a closely contested first quarter with BGSU (1-1) holding a slim 19-18 win, Detroit Mercy (1-0) went on to outscore the Falcons 18-8 in the second frame to lead by nine points, 36-27, at the half.
UDM held a slim 19-15 advantage in the third quarter taking a 13-point advantage, 55-42, entering the fourth quarter.
BGSU pulled out all the stops, opening the fourth quarter with a 13-3 run and outscored UDM 23-9 overall, cutting the deficit to three points at 58-55 with 5:57 remaining. Hooper came up clutch and knocked down a huge 3-ball to stop the bleeding, followed by back-to-back jumpers from McQueen and a pair of free throws by freshman
Kailey Starks that moved the Titans back up by 10 points, 67-57 with 2:42 to go. After Hooper connected on a layup, The Falcons kept clawing away and cut the lead down to four points with 29 seconds left. Hooper then knocked down four more free throws, scoring UDM's last six points to seal the win.
UDM will host Bellarmine on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. as the first leg of a doubleheader with the men's team.
