DETROIT (12/2/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team has added to its young talent pool by signing Spencer Shearer for the 2025-26 season.

Shearer hails from Otsego, Michigan, and is a standout student-athlete at Otsego High School. 

"Spencer embodies many of the qualities I look for in a recruit," said Director Of Golf Jordan McArleton. "His dedication, consistency, and commitment to keep growing as a golfer tell me he's going to be the perfect addition to our roster."

A four-year letterwinner in tennis and golf, he was a state finalist as a sophomore and junior. Last season, he was tabbed First Team All-State and All-Region, earning conference medalist with a school-record 1-under 69 and helping his team to a conference title. Shearer was also All-Region as a sophomore and All-Conference all three years, winning his county championship the last two seasons. 

On the junior circuit, he was runner-up at the Midwest Junior Championship at Treetops Resort with a 148 (72-76) and won the Callaway Meijer Event at Mines Golf Club with a 72.
