Titans, Michigan First Credit Union Donate Over $4,000 To Detroit Public Schools Foundation

The Titans gave DPS a check during its men's basketball game against Purdue Fort Wayne.
DETROIT (2/23/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy and Michigan First Credit Union once again gave back to the local community with a check for $4,044 to Detroit Public Schools Foundation as part of the annual DPS Benefit game that the Titans played earlier in the year.

This donation marked the sixth such collaboration between Detroit Mercy and Michigan First Credit Union that directly benefits the Detroit Public Schools Foundation.

Detroit Mercy's men's basketball team hosted Wayne State back on Nov. 2 in a preseason game and Michigan First matched ticket sales in the event to make the contribution.

"Our annual DPS game has become a staple in our basketball season," said Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. "I think it is a great tradition for the community to come together to not only come out and support the Titans, but support each other and Michigan First Credit Union being right there with us in helping give back, makes the event even more special."

With this latest donation, Titan Athletics and Michigan First Credit Union have helped raise nearly $35,000 for DPS K-5 between ticket sales and matching contributions from Michigan First.

"Michigan First, which was founded by educators nearly 100 years ago as Detroit Teachers Credit Union, is proud to have partnered with the UDM Titans Basketball team to help raise money for the Detroit Public Schools Community District," said Lonnie Edwards Chief Operations Officer of Michigan First Credit Union. "We are excited to continue our partnership with UDM as we expand our support of local communities."

The Detroit Public Schools Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 organization that raises money to support Detroit Public Schools Community District students. To learn more about the foundation and the work they are doing, visit dpsfdn.org
