CINCINNATI (3/5/2024) -- Three goals in the final two minutes were not enough as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-8 contest at Xavier on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
Senior
Cat Kopchia led the offense with three goals, while graduate senior
Marina Butler had two. Senior
Sarah Meek tallied a career-high seven ground balls with two caused turnovers and a draw control and junior
Meredith Leavell made 14 saves.
The Titans (0-6) tied the game early at 1-1 as Kopchia scored her first just a few minutes into the contest. UDM pulled with two on two occasions, the first as junior
Maddy Camm beat the keeper to make it 4-2 with 6:11 left in the first, and then with 1:27 remaining, Butler fired one in off the free position for a 5-3 margin.
Xavier (3-3) had a 7-3 lead when senior
Abby Schillinger went through three defenders and bounced one in with 9:01 on the clock in the second, but the Musketeers took an 8-4 lead at the break.
In the third, Butler struck first, taking a pass from junior
Leah Bodnar and beating the goalie to get the team to 8-5, but Xavier scored four in a row after that to open a 12-5 advantage.
The Titans got it going again late as sophomore
Alyssa Jarvis went around a defender and fired in a goal with 1:43 left. Kopchia then put away two straight markers with under a minute to play.
Jarvis tied her career high again with a team-best five draw controls. Camm ended with two ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control and Schillinger picked up two draws and a GB.
The Titans were outshot just 31-28 and saw Xavier commit 18 turnovers.
The red, white and blue will stay on the road as they visit Lindenwood on Sunday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

- Camm now has a caused turnover in all six games and has 11 on the year, along with scoring a goal in five-straight games
- Jarvis has now scored a goal in all six games
- Jarvis also had five draw controls at Canisius in the last game and against Kent State last season
