DETROIT (4/10/2024) -- Sophomore
Drew Kessenich tallied three goals and graduate senior
Luke Majick and freshman
Sean Donahue each had two, but a second-quarter run made things difficult for the Titans as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team fell, 21-9, to visiting Jacksonville on Wednesday afternoon.
Majick and Donahue also had an assist, while sophomore
Zach Snider registered a goal and a helper.
Junior
Ryan Richters made 13 saves and junior
Noah Martin recorded two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
The Titans (2-8, 2-4 ASUN) saw Kessenich score their first goal to make it a 2-1 game. Later in the first, freshman
Sawyer Van Antwerp found the back of the net to trim the deficit to 5-2.
Kessenich scored his second early in the second and then the red, white and blue tallied three in a row to pull within three, 9-6. Donahue started that spurt off a pass from Snider and after the Titans forced a turnover, Donahue set up Snider for a score. Detroit Mercy won the next faceoff, and off a rebound, Donahue buried one in the pipes to make it 9-6 with 6:37 left.
Jacksonville (8-4, 5-1 ASUN) answered with six straight to take control of the game.
Junior
Billy Hart won 11 faceoffs and tied his career-high with seven ground balls for the second-straight game, while junior
Evan DeVito and sophomore
Eoghan Mullett each had two GBs.
The Titans were 16-of-19 on clears and just lost the ground ball total, 33-26.
UDM will have a quick turnaround for its next game as Detroit Mercy welcomes Air Force to Titan Field on Saturday, with game time set for 11:00 a.m.
