Titans Look To Start Postseason Run At Bellarmine On Saturday

Harold Skinner and the Titans will need a two-game winning streak to reach the playoffs.
DETROIT (4/17/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will be, in essence, starting the postseason as the Titans are at Bellarmine on Saturday.

Game time is set for Noon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium and will be streamed live on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available.

The Titans still have an opportunity to make the six-team Atlantic Sun Championship, but will need to win their final two games at Bellarmine and against Cleveland State and get some help with a CSU loss at Utah this weekend, as well as Mercer dropping one of its final three games (at Air Force, at Queens, vs. Lindenwood).

UDM is coming off a tough week that saw it drop home games to Jacksonville and Air Force, two teams fighting for the overall number one seed.

Bellarmine is 9-5 overall and 5-2 in the ASUN as the Knights have an outside chance of winning the regular season title.

THE POSTSEASON STARTS NOW
  • Detroit Mercy still has a chance to make the ASUN Championship and can finish as high as the fifth seed.
  • First thing is first, the Titans will have to win their final two games and get some help with a Cleveland State loss at Utah this weekend as well as Mercer dropping one of its final three games (at Air Force, at Queens, vs. Lindenwood).

I KNOW YOU
  • Detroit Mercy and Bellarmine have played every year - outside of the pandemic-shortened season of 2021 - since the Titans started their program in 2009.
  • This will be the 15th meeting, the most against any opponent in school history, ahead of the 14 versus Marist.
  • Most of the meetings have been as non-conference rivals as both teams just became ASUN foes in 2022.

THE MAGIC MAN
  • Graduate senior Luke Majick recorded his seventh career hat trick with three goals against VMI and had a three-point effort with two goals and an assist against Jacksonville.
  • He tied his season-high in back-to-back games with four points on two goals and two assists against Queens and at Lindenwood, and also had four points on two goals and two assists against Mercer.
  • He has scored a goal in 10 of the 11 games this season and 31 of his 41 career games as a Titan.
  • He leads the team with 29 points and 12 assists and is second with 17 goals. He ranks 11th in the ASUN with 1.09 per game and 14th with 2.64 points per game.
  • Majick is now eighth in school history in points (93) and ninth in goals (56).
  • Majick started the year honored by his conference peers as he was named to the Preseason All-ASUN Team as a midfielder after a poll by the league's head coaches.

WEARING THE BIG "C"
  • Detroit Mercy will have a trio of outstanding leadership this season as the Titans announced that graduate seniors Kyle Loken and Luke Majick as well as senior Noah Martin will have the honor of wearing the capital 'C' this year.
  • "These men have demonstrated to the team and the coaching staff how much they care about their fellow teammates and the program and continue to showcase what we have built this program on," said head coach Chris Kolon '09 (MBA)
  • Loken - just the fourth Titan to be named a team captain three times - has seen action in 47 games as a defensive midfielder and has recorded 25 caused turnovers and 77 ground balls to go with 10 goals and two assists. He had a pair of caused turnovers against Mercer and a takeaway and three GB's against Queens. Last year, he tied for fourth on the team with a career-tying 24 ground balls and fifth with a career-high eight caused turnovers, scoring two goals.
