DETROIT (4/2/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team got behind early and could not recover as the Titans fell to Arizona State, 17-3, on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon at Titan Field.
Seniors
Cat Kopchia and
Abby Schillinger and sophomore
Alyssa Jarvis all had goals, while junior
Maddy Camm tied her career-best with three caused turnovers, two ground balls and a draw control.
Kopchia also picked up a career-high three GB's and juniorÂ
Katie Bilello had a caused turnover and a season-high three ground balls. Junior
Meredith Leavell made four saves in net before giving way to freshman
Sam Gargiulo, who tallied two stops.
The Titans (3-9) saw Arizona State (6-6) - a team that has already played six ranked teams on its schedule - score the first 13 markers before junior
Leah Bodnar found sophomore
Alyssa Jarvis for a goal in the third. Schillinger added her strike early in the fourth and Kopchia posted a goal with under a minute to go.
The Titans turned it over a season-low seven times and had an 11-7 advantage on ground balls, while going 11-of-12 on clears.
UDM will now get ready for an important #MACtion showdown as the Titans host Eastern Michigan on Sunday, with first draw set for 1:00 p.m.
Game Notes:
- This was only the second career meeting between the two schools as Arizona State took the first match-up, 24-6, back in 2020, also at home
- Detroit Mercy has posted 98 caused turnovers on the year as it leads the MAC and is 53rd in the nation with 8.2 takeaways per game
- Camm leads the MAC and is 27th in the nation with 23 caused turnovers and 1.92 per game as well as leading the team lead, fourth in the MAC and 37th in the nation with 31 ground balls and 2.64 per game. Â
- Kopchia is ninth in school history with 129 points on 99 goals and 31 assists, seventh in school history in goals and ninth in assists
- Bilello's career high in ground balls is four on three occasions in her career
