Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Titans Drop Tuesday Affair To Arizona State

DETROIT (4/2/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team got behind early and could not recover as the Titans fell to Arizona State, 17-3, on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon at Titan Field.

Seniors Cat Kopchia and Abby Schillinger and sophomore Alyssa Jarvis all had goals, while junior Maddy Camm tied her career-best with three caused turnovers, two ground balls and a draw control.

Kopchia also picked up a career-high three GB's and junior Katie Bilello had a caused turnover and a season-high three ground balls. Junior Meredith Leavell made four saves in net before giving way to freshman Sam Gargiulo, who tallied two stops.

The Titans (3-9) saw Arizona State (6-6) - a team that has already played six ranked teams on its schedule - score the first 13 markers before junior Leah Bodnar found sophomore Alyssa Jarvis for a goal in the third. Schillinger added her strike early in the fourth and Kopchia posted a goal with under a minute to go.

The Titans turned it over a season-low seven times and had an 11-7 advantage on ground balls, while going 11-of-12 on clears.

UDM will now get ready for an important #MACtion showdown as the Titans host Eastern Michigan on Sunday, with first draw set for 1:00 p.m.

Game Notes:
  • This was only the second career meeting between the two schools as Arizona State took the first match-up, 24-6, back in 2020, also at home
  • Detroit Mercy has posted 98 caused turnovers on the year as it leads the MAC and is 53rd in the nation with 8.2 takeaways per game

  • Kopchia is ninth in school history with 129 points on 99 goals and 31 assists, seventh in school history in goals and ninth in assists
  • Bilello's career high in ground balls is four on three occasions in her career
