BATAVIA, Ohio (4/6/2024) -- Three Titans were in the top 30 as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team recorded its second-best season score en route to a third-place finish at NKU's The Jewell on Sunday.
Detroit Mercy tallied a final round 295, totaling an 872 (292-284-295) at the par 71, 6,845-yard Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio. The 872 is tied for the 17th 54-hole score in school history, just a few shots off the season-low 868 at Murray State's The Buddy in the fall.
Senior
Alek Mauro led the way tying for 11th with a 215 (72-69-74), just four shots outside of fifth place and his seventh career top-20 effort. His final round included three birdies and 10 pars as he played the front nine 3-under.
Freshmen
David Swab and
Mason Sokolowski tied for 27th with a career-low 220. Sokolowski (75-72-73) ended his career day with four birdies and eight pars in his 2-over 73, while Swab (70-75-75) knocked in four birdies and six pars.
Freshman
Gowtham Nalluri shared 32nd with a 221 (76-68-77) and sophomore
Austin Brancaccio tied for 44th at 225 (76-76-73). Nalluri posted 11 pars and a birdie in round three, and Brancaccio recorded three birdies with 11 pars.
UDM will have one more tune-up before the Horizon League Championship as the Titans head to Ohio for the Wright State Invitational next week, April 14-15.
