Joshua Otten were all applauded for their hard work as student-athletes as the Horizon League announced its Valeo Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Teams on Thursday.
Otten and Eding was also honored on the All-Academic Team for indoors, while Zaborney was an Honorable Mention All-Academic for indoors.
A total of 19 student-athletes were selected to the All-Academic Teams, while 12 more were recognized as honorable mentions in balloting by the League's faculty athletics representatives. The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports.
Zaborney earned his master's in Mechanical Engineering with a 3.71 GPA. He scored in the triple jump, taking sixth at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships, while competing in the long jump and javelin. During the regular season, he finished second in the triple jump at Davenport's Panther Classic and third in Oakland. He was also named the Detroit Mercy President Award winner.
Otten holds a 3.95 in English and Political Science major and claimed fifth in the 1,500-meters in a career-low 3:52.49, third best in the school record book, and took seventh in the 800m in 1:57.79 at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships. He won the 1,500m at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic and set a career mark in the 5,000m at Eastern Illinois.
Eding was tabbed Honorable Mention as the 3.76 GPA Engineering graduate ran a career-best in the 100m at 10.95 in the preliminaries at the HL Outdoor Championships. Eding also won the 100m and was part of the winning 4x100-meter relay at Central Michigan and took second in the long jump at CMU, fourth at Oakland and fifth at Michigan.
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
