Titans Fight Hard In Tough Loss To Milwaukee

DETROIT (1/4/2025) -- Junior Orlando Lovejoy tallied his second career double-double with 20 points and a career-tying 10 rebounds and the Titans kept fighting to the end, but could not get it done as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped a 64-56 home decision to Milwaukee on Saturday.

Lovejoy added a team-high five assists and a steal as he was 6-of-13 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 6-of-6 at the line. Freshman Nate Johnson posted eight points and six rebounds, while freshman TJ Nadeau registered seven points, three rebounds, three assists and a block.

Detroit Mercy (6-11, 2-4 HL) had an early 15-11 lead after a jumper from Nadeau, but Milwaukee (11-5, 4-1 HL) went on a 14-2 run to take a 25-17 lead with 6:17 left in the half. Graduate senior Emmanuel Kuac ended that with 3-pointer, and back-to-back buckets by junior Legend Geeter and Nadeau had the team down just 25-24 with under three minutes remaining, but Milwaukee claimed a 28-24 advantage at the break.

In the second half, the teams traded baskets, but redshirt freshman Grant Gondrezick II's twice tied it, first at 38-38 at the 12:22 mark and then again at 40-40 with 10:25 left.

Milwaukee would take control with a 13-2 spurt for an 11-point lead, 53-42, at the 6:51 mark. The Titans tried chipping away as a three by Lovejoy cut it to 56-51 with just under four minutes left, but they could never get it under that margin.

Kuac hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points and Gondrezick II had six points, three rebounds and a takeaway.

The Titans held Milwaukee to 30.8% shooting (20-of-65), including 3-of-24 from distance with 15 turnovers. UDM shot 37.0% overall (20-of-54) and 11-of-13 at the line, but was 5-of-22 (22.7%) from behind the arc.

The Titans will head back on the road for a pair of games in Indiana, starting with IU Indy on Thursday.
